CASE STUDY
Global Britain Commission
Positioning the UK on the world stage
Project Story
‘Global Britain’ was the government's response to the criticisms that a vote to leave the European Union would result in a more isolationist and inward-looking UK. Instead, it sought to portray the UK as a nation more open to the world and more able to trade and engage with countries outside the confines of EU structures.
We established the ‘Global Britain Commission’ to set the agenda for what businesses wanted from Global Britain and how the economic (as opposed to the foreign policy) aspects of Global Britain could and should be delivered.
We brought together some of the UK’s most influential and well-respected businesses who, like us, wanted to ensure that the government had the right policies and strategies in place to deliver global Britain and make maximum returns for UK plc. We created a blueprint for government on how to build a stronger and more resilient economy, create jobs, reach net zero and level up our country.
The Commission published three main policy reports alongside shorter influential policy papers on how to scale-up UK businesses and on sustainable aviation fuel. Our recommendations were included in the budget and in Labour policy papers. Commissioners took the proposals and recommendations to numerous meetings with ministers and to 11 Downing Street where they were well received by the Chancellor.
Our economists also built a new index from scratch - the Global Britain Index - which took a data led approach to establishing the best future trading partners for the UK, ranking 80 countries. Intended as a strategic tool for both business and government, the Index set out where the government should prioritise its energy, efforts and political resources to help Global Britain succeed in an increasingly competitive global economy.

"Bradshaw Advisory has undertaken a significant amount of work to understand the UK's key strengths, the drivers of our competitive advantage and what we can do to boost growth and investments.
In particular, they have looked into the make-up and impact of our AI sector, the progress since the review I did with Jérôme Pesenti, the implications of the UK-Singapore Digital Economy Agreement and the actions we need to take to avoid losing our global advantage.
I have found them to be excellent to work with - knowledgeable, proactive, experienced and dedicated to doing an excellent job."
