Sir John Armitt is one of the UK's most authoritative voices on infrastructure policy, construction and delivery.
His 2013 Armitt Review of long-term infrastructure planning provided the blueprint for the National Infrastructure Commission, which he went on to chair from 2018 until its transition into the National Infrastructure and Service Transformation Authority (NISTA) in 2025.
He has also served on the Airports Commission, chaired the Thames Estuary 2050 Growth Commission, and sat on the board of Transport for London.
He was the Chairman of the Olympic Delivery Authority from 2007 to 2014, and held chief executive roles at Network Rail, Railtrack, Costain and Union Railways. He served as President of the Institution of Civil Engineers in 2015–16.
He chairs the 9-month Public Private Partnership Commission which is run by Bradshaw Advisory.
