Andy Burnham’s £1bn Good Growth Fund
Housebuilding across the UK has stalled.
Not because of a lack of demand of insufficient capaicty but because the cost of building outruns what homes can realistically sell or rent for creating significant viability challenges.
We worked with Andy Burnham, the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, the Greater Manchester Pension Fund and CBRE to think of the optimum way through to tackle this problem while protecting taxpayers while still bringing much-needed projects forward.
Bradshaw Advisory expert team were engaged to undertake the HM Treasury Green Book compliant business case, work on the policy details and help engage central government (particularly Treasury and Downing Street).
The £1bn+ Good Growth Fund now exists, and is expected to unlock more than 15,000 new homes across Greater Manchester.
The launch was covered across print and broadcast, including the Financial Times, The Times, BBC News, BBC Radio, the Guardian, the Telegraph and regional media. The model is now regarded as a blueprint for other city regions to replicate - and with Andy Burnham's move from Greater Manchester to Downing Street it is likely to feature nationally too.
Hear (now) Prime Minister Andy Burnham speaking about the Good Growth Fund on BBC Radio 4 here:
Andrew McIntosh, Director of Sustainable Growth & Infrastructure, Greater Manchester Combined Authority:
"Bradshaw Advisory alongside CBRE were key in helping us put together the case for a new type of housing investment model and navigating through the treacle of government to create the Good Growth Fund."
